Draw at the Gutshot if it’s Worth It
You are in the middle stages of a MTT and have a nice sized chip stack. You find yourself involved in a hand with another big stack in which you have flopped a gutshot straight draw and have position on your opponent.
He bets between 1/3 and 1/2 the pot. Before answering if you should call or not, you should ask yourself these questions:
- Are you drawing at the Nut Straight?
- Did the Flop come with 3 different suits?
- Is there a Pair on board?
- If you call and are forced to give up on the Turn, would it be a big hit to your Chips or your Table Image?
- Will your opponent pay you off if you make your hand?
The last question may be the most important one. Is his hand strong enough, or his play weak enough, that he will pay you off if you hit your hand.
There are also times where you will call his flop-bet, and he will check the Turn to you. If he is not a very tricky player, you can sometimes bet and take the pot away from him, even if you miss your hand.
Good Luck at the Tables.
