Guaranteed Tournaments
A nice break from the monotony of Sit N Go’s is needed every once in a while. Too many times, players will burn themselves out playing 1-table tournaments, and eventually auto-pilot can kick in. This can hurt results and develop a plateau at which the player stops trying to improve his/her game, and just simply “plays”.
It is at these times that I recommend playing in one of the many “Guaranteed” Multi-table Tournaments online. The format and structure are great for most of them, and they are a great value for the money.
A Guaranteed Tournament is a tournament where the online casino will put up a guaranteed prize-pool. If the online casino doesn’t get enough entrants to make their money back, there is extra value in the pool for all the players who were lucky enough to enter. Basically, you are always playing for at least the guaranteed prize-pool, depending on the number of entrants.
The site with the most recognition; and as far as I am concerned, the best software, interface, and customer service is Full Tilt Poker . They have more Guaranteed tournaments each day than most sites have in a week. The buy-in’s range from $3 all the way up to $1000. Their largest every week is a $750,000 for a $500+$40 buy-in, and there are tons of satellites to get into it for as little as a few dollars.
Try them out. The overlay is usually huge in the $3-$50 ones. I have not played the larger ones except the $750k and due to the amount of satellite winners, this might have the best overlay on the site. I haven’t been playing on FTP lately so I can’t attest to how the play has been, but….
