Depending on how much you will be starting with, the first thing to look into is how you are going to get the best value for your money when depositing.

Online Poker sites are always trying to outdo eachother with deposit bonuses so players will choose them over another site. Some poker rooms (like Sun Poker) will let players choose their own bonus structure.

Pokerstars only offers up to a $50 bonus for new players, but they are one of the biggest rooms on the internet, and they are US Friendly.

Chan Poker and Absolute Poker have less players than the biggest sites, so they offer bigger sign-up bonuses. (Chan offers $1,000 and Absolute offers up to $500)

All sites require you to play a certain amount of hands or tournaments in order to work off your Bonus. I suggest if you are just staring out, that you play off the bonus at $1/2 Limit or $.10/.25 NL.

Before you decide where to deposit, make sure you read the site’s terms and conditions to see what they consider a raked hand. Some sites say if you are dealt in and the pot is raked, it counts. Other sites require that you put money into the pot in order for it to count toward your raked hands.

Read some unbiased site reviews, and make your decision. Realize also that if you join a site and end up not liking it, there is always another site to try. The important thing is to find a room you are comfortable with, and play with a sufficient bankroll for your level of play.
