There is a lot of talk in the Poker world about ICM calculations. These are a mathematical way of figuring out when to push and what hands to do it with, against each player on the Bubble.

I am just too lazy to read about, and learn how to do it. If someone could break it down in a general manner I would greatly appreciate it.

I do however know when I think it is a good time to push all in on the Bubble of an SNG, and that time is A LOT. This is especially true if you have the luxury of being first in chips, and having the short stack to your immediate right.

You also have to make sure you are up against opponents who are playing reasonably tight because they want to at least make it into the money. If opponents are aware of the short stack, you should be moving in on them more than 75% of the time when the short stack has folded.

The reason is this: They don’t want to go broke when there is a short-stack at the table, so they will be folding all but the best of hands. Again, you have to be aware of your opponents levels of thinking and play before you enter this ultra-aggressive mode.

If you are against someone who will call off all their chips on the bubble with a K8, then there is no sense moving in on him with a JT. If your opponents are too tight however, as most are on the bubble of low-middle limit SNG’s, you can rob them blind and basically guarantee yourself at least a Top 2 finish.

*NOTE If you see that two opponents have started getting into it a bit, it may be better to sit back on your chips and wait for one to bust the other. There is no sense trying to pound on players who are loose and gambling on the bubble. You are better off waiting for a situation where they are going after each other, and you are the brick wall they run into.
